Smith Machine Deadlift: how to do it and form tips

A deadlift variation performed in a Smith machine. The fixed bar path biases the back and glutes, though it removes most of the stabilizer work of the conventional lift.

Form tips

  1. Set the starting pin just below knee height and keep the bar close to your shins.
  2. Drive through your heels and extend hips and knees together.
  3. Because the path is fixed, focus even more on a neutral spine throughout.
